Extrudate density can have a significant impact on final product properties and is principally determined by the pressure generated in the extruder die during extrusion. The type of extruder chosen for production can have far reaching implications throughout the life cycle of a product.
The fundamental choice between a “long die extruder” generally hole width to depth ration of 1:4) or “short die extruder” (generally hole width to depth ratio of 1:1) extruder is one that has to be taken based on knowledge of the product properties.
